COURSE OVERVIEW
RESPONSIBILITY AND AWARENESS PANEL
(RAP / NON-ALCOHOL TRAFFIC OFFENSES) $35.00

If Everyone

If everyone who drives a car, would lie a month in bed,

With broken bones, and stitched up wounds, or fractures of the head,

And there endure the agonies that many people do,

They'd never need preach safety anymore to me and you.

If everyone could meet the wife and children left behind,

And step into the darkened home where once the sunlight shined,

To look upon the vacant chair, where Daddy used to sit,

I'm sure some reckless drivers would be forced to think a bit.

If everyone who takes the wheel, would say a little prayer,

And keep in mind those in the car depending on his care,

And make a vow and pledge himself to never take a chance,

A great crusade for safety would suddenly advance.

This program is a two-hour victim impact panel for non-alcohol involved traffic offenders. Volunteer speakers address the more serious consequences of common driving errors, including failure to use seat belts. In general, participants in this program are those who have first offenses and want to make a plea bargain.

Our volunteer speakers include the victim of a traffic accident, a nurse educator from St. Johns Injury Prevention Office, a medical investigator from the Greene County Medical Examiners office and a retired Missouri Highway Patrolman.

The emphasis of this program is on possible consequences - the consequence of a ticket and offender education program viewed in comparison to the possible real life consequences that could be or might have been.

Verbal responses following this program show it to be very effective for the first time offender of traffic offenses in raising awareness of the importance of our responsibilities to each other as drivers.
