First introduced in 1964, this course has become the industry standard. Studies have shown that participation in a DDC program can dramatically reduce violations and collision rates. This 8 hour program involves step-by-step training for the adult learner who has had one or two traffic offenses within a three year period. Taught by a nationally certified instructor, the content of this course includes the definition of defensive driving and preventable collisions, hazard recognition and dealing with driving conditions. Emphasis is placed on using occupant safety devices and analyzing driving choices and consequences. Using audio-visual presentations and participant guides, student offenders are led through sessions of training in personal responsibility and choosing safe and legal behaviors when behind the wheel of their vehicles.
