Certified Safety & Health Specialist (CSHS) Program

The Certified Safety and Health Specialist Program is a local program developed by the Safety Council of the Ozarks to meet the demand of organizations that needed people with comprehensive safety skills. The Safety Council continues to offer recertification for those individuals who have completed their CSHS but now focuses on the Advanced Safety Certificate as a way for those interested in building a foundation for their safety experience or expanding their safety knowledge.

For those wanting to recertify and maintain their CSHS Credential:
In order to recertify and maintain your CSHS credential, graduates of this program must complete eight total hours (0.8 CEUs) of approved continuing education annually. Content of the courses taken or conferences attended for continuing education units must be within the occupational safety and health subject areas. The continuing education requirement cannot be fulfilled by First-Aid/CPR recertification. Hazwoper training can be used only once in a 3 year period. Likewise, any other required re-certification training on any one subject can be used to meet the requirement once per subject. Training provided within an individual company (such as safety meetings, new process information, etc.) does not usually meet the criteria of continuing education unless it is presented by an outside trainer, is comprehensive in scope, and is at least eight hours in length.

Documentation for continuing education must have been completed any time in the previous year. The following are examples of acceptable documentation:

• A copy of a CEU certificate
• A copy of a Certificate of Training
• A registration receipt plus a copy of a conference or seminar agenda/brochure
• Copy of Higher Education Transcripts
• The program title, date, location, phone number, and the name of the instructor, submitted in writing, will suffice.
